Test Details:
What is being tested?
HIV, human immunodeficiency virus, is the virus that causes AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), which destroys the immune system and leaves the body vulnerable to debilitating infections and cancer. This test detects HIV antibodies in the blood. Antibodies to HIV are produced by the body and can be detected in the blood about 2 to 4 weeks after exposure to the virus.
If an HIV test result returns as positive, MedExpress Labs, by law, is required to perform an additional confirmation test to ensure that the original result is 100% accurate.
How is the sample collected for testing?
A blood sample is obtained by injecting a needle into a vein in the arm.
