Cholesterol Test or Total Fasting Lipid Profile$49
Formal Name:
Total Fasting Lipid Profile
Reason for Taking This Test:
To screen for risk of developing heart disease and to make sure that your cholesterol is within an acceptable range.
This Test is Recommended When:
Adults should be tested once every six months or more frequently if being treated for high cholesterol or have one or more risk factors for heart disease. Children and adolescents with risk factors should also have their cholesterol level checked.
Test Details:
The Total Fasting Lipid profile includes total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol (often called good cholesterol), LDL-cholesterol (often called bad cholesterol), and triglycerides.
The results of the lipid profile are considered along with other known risk factors of heart disease to develop a plan of treatment and follow-up.
Test results will indicate acceptable or normal levels for each component and where the patient's levels are in relation to those acceptable levels.
How is the sample collected for testing?
A blood sample is obtained by inserting a needle into a vein in the arm. As an alternative, particularly in pediatric care, the blood sample is drawn from the fingertip. (10 -12 Hour Fast is Required)
